Haus Friedwart

In this column of the W3+ magazine we feature very special sights and locations in Wetzlar. Here: the Friedwart House in Wetzlar.

Situated on Wetzlar’s prominent hillside Kalsmunthang, Friedwart House has a panoramic view over the whole town. The art nouveau villa was built for Ernst Leitz II between 1914 and 1917. Over the decades, the home of the Leitz family became a gathering place for personages from economy and science, politics and culture. Theodor Heuss and Albert Schweitzer came visiting as well as famous photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson and Alfred Eisenstaedt. Today, Friedwart House is primarily used for receptions and chamber concerts.
