W3+: At Hessen Trade & Invest you are responsible for the sector Technology & Innovation. What are your core tasks?
Carsten Ott: Under the umbrella name of “Technologieland Hessen” we create a network of Hessian companies which we advise comprehensively and free of charge. Our main goal is to sustainably support companies in the development and application of key technologies, to give new impulses to the culture of innovation and to establish contacts with relevant networks.
W3+: Central Hessen is one of the technology regions in Hessen. What impresses you most about that?
Carsten Ott: That so many industrial enterprises which are known nationwide are resident in Central Hessen, among them some so-called Hidden Champions from the optics, electronics, and mechanics sector. Experts predict about 25 percent growth in this sector during the next 5 years. Even the award “Hessen Champion 2017” in the category “Innovation” went to a Central Hessian company: OptoTech Optikmaschinen GmbH from Wettenberg.
W3+: How important do you consider regional and international networking between companies?
Carten Ott: Very important. Our motto is: Think innovatively, act internationally. That means, we help companies in gaining access to innovative technologies and to new national and international markets.
