Leitz Park III

Leica Camera

At Leitz Park, a new quarter arises, where manufacturing and science, culture and living are united. It will be a place for local people and international guests.

Driving past the Leitz Park on the way in to Wetzlar, you can hardly miss it: the red dot on the globe in the middle of the roundabout seems to be growing. And a look to the right confirms this impression. The third construction phase is growing into the sky, the first three of four planned buildings are already starting to take shape. 1,200 tons of concrete mass, 11,300 cubic meters of concrete and 35 tons of composite steel girders have been used since the ground-breaking ceremony in June 2016.

Embedded in public space, the work of Frankfurt architects Gruber + Kleine-Kraneburg underlines yet again the design aspirations of the Leitz Park. The ambitiously designed high-tech center that is being built in Wetzlar provides a public place for local people and international guests. The World of Leica Experience will have its own building in the Leitz Park III. The future arcona LIVING ERNST LEITZ HOTEL will offer 129 rooms and suites as well as a restaurant seating 120 guests and a generous banquet area of up to 500 square meters. Another building is to house the headquarters of the CW Sonderoptic company.

The result will be a new quarter, where manufacturing and science, culture and living are united. “It is exciting to see the pace at which the third construction phase is progressing – it changes nearly every day,” enthuses Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, majority shareholder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Leica Camera AG. “The carcassing is being completed according to schedule and the buildings should be finished by the end of April 2017.” The official opening of the Leitz Park III is planned for 2018.
