Leica M RED

1.805.000

This is not a serial number, but the hammer price of one of the most expensive cameras of all time: The Leica M RED.

Designed by Apple star designer Jonathan Ive and Marc Newson. All in white, the housing made of die-cast magnesium, the outer shell of milled and anodized aluminum: this is the Leica M RED. On 23rd November 2013 the unique item came under the hammer at a charity auction supporting the “RED” project initiated by U2 singer Bono, which fights diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa. Listed in the auction catalog of Sotheby’s New York at an estimated 500,000-750,000 USD, the fierce bidding for the camera did not end until the 1.8 million USD mark had been topped.
