W3+: You are professor of precision engineering in Göttingen and started up your own company in 2010. What made you do that?

KJS: Having your own company gives you the best technical and, even more importantly, legal conditions for cooperating with other industrial enterprises or universities. As cooperation with industry is extremely important to me beside my academic teaching and research, I started up a small company.

W3+: Do your two fields of activity gain from each other?

KJS: Yes, of course! I see the gain in the opportunities for turning scientific ideas in engineering science into actual products. This enhances the market viability of our industry as a whole.

W3+: Which areas have you specialized in?

KJS: I examine vibration problems that arise in the operation, using FEM simulations, vibration measurement and analysis, adaptronic compensation systems – and most of all: extensive know-how!
