Collection of historical microscopes

In this column we feature very special sights and locations in the Wetzlar region. Here: the collection of historical microscopes at the New Townhall in Wetzlar.

Entering the New Townhall in Wetzlar, you can still sense the charm of the 1950s in the former Leitz administration building. The collection of historical microscopes is on the 3rd floor, reached by climbing the famous spiral staircase. From a replica of the famous Leeuwenhoek microscope via one of the first microscopes made by Carl Kellner to the pioneering microscopic instruments of Leitz and later Leica Microsystems, the exhibits take you on a tour: here is an opportunity to experience the history of optics first-hand.
