Central Hessen Universities

“Advancement Through Education”

The collaborative project “WM3 – Continuing Education in Central Hessen” run by Giessen and Marburg Universities in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences for Central Hessen aims to set up part-time Masters degree courses, certificate courses and study modules.

An important preliminary decision has been made in the “Advancement Through Education: Open Universities” competition jointly funded by the federal and state governments: The collaborative project of the Justus Liebig University of Giessen (JLU), the Philipps University of Marburg (UMR) and the University of Applied Sciences (THM) has been successful with its outline proposal, and the universities have now been asked to submit a full application.

Continuing education for the region of Central Hessen

In view of their common development planning, Central Hessen’s three universities have decided to work together on a joint “WM3 – Continuing Education in Central Hessen” project to create a range of further education opportunities for the region of Central Hessen and beyond that is optimally attuned to the interests of business and society. The objective of the collaborative project under the overall control of the Justus Liebig University is to set up new, demand-oriented and part-time Masters degree courses, certificate courses and study modules that will be developed, run and marketed jointly.

JLU, UMR and THM combine efforts

The alliance of the three established central Hessian universities in the field of further academic education is a unique opportunity for the Central Hessen region, as it enables the long-term development of courses that are geared to regional interests. THM Vice President Professor Harald Danne: “We aim to make our contribution to the competitiveness of local trade and industry by extending our current range of academic further education courses.”

The university partners in the “Open Universities” competition

The final decision on which projects in the “Open Universities” competition are to be funded by the federal and state governments is expected in two months’ time. Professor Eva Burwitz-Melzer, First Vice President of the JLU, sees Central Hessen’s three universities on the right track: “Together with our two partner universities UMR and THM, we are delighted about the request to submit a full application. This is an important step forward in the development of the region’s further education opportunities. We will do all we can to ensure that our concepts are equally successful in the full application.”
