Hexagon Metrology

Symposium for Industrial Metrology

This year’s Hexagon Metrology Forum in Wetzlar once again met with great acclaim. The participants of the symposium for industrial metrology intensely discussed recent and future issues.

On September 30th and October 1st, Hexagon Metrology hosted the second Metrology Forum Wetzlar. Like the first event, the second symposium for industrial metrology again met with keen interest. “We were able to welcome a respectable total of 140 participants, who were very pleased with our event in general and the lectures in particular,” said Holger Fritze, CEO of Hexagon Metrology Deutschland.

The participants were most interested in the practice-oriented presentations by top-class speakers from BMW i, Volkswagen and numerous research institutes – notably the lecture given by Professor Heinz Kraus from the Central Hessen University of Applied Sciences (THM) on the subject of “The Fourth Industrial Revolution”. This is a recent development called Industry 4.0 that involves the acquisition, storage and transfer of data within manufacturing processes and along the value creation chain. The conclusive information gained from this process on increasingly complex products and systems in the synchronized R&D and manufacturing environment opens new and extensive opportunities for metrology, too.

These and other current issues were discussed intensively at the symposium. Their impact on the future of metrology, if any, will be evident by September 2016 at the latest: at the next Hexagon Metrology Forum in Wetzlar.
