Expert Exchange

The Industry Discussions for Central Hessen were initiated three years ago. The success has been overwhelming and sustained: June 2015 saw the twenty-fifth event already.

The Industry Discussions of the German Physical Society (DPG) offer regional forums for discussing physical research issues at the interface to practical application. The huge interest in an exchange of ideas between academia and industry has been impressively confirmed in the Industry Discussions for Central Hessen over the past three years. The Physics Institutes of the Justus Liebig Universität (JLU) in Giessen provide the perfect venue for these talks. The top-class speakers come from Giessen, Essen, Jena, Stuttgart or Vienna, from Zeiss, Trumpf and Evonik. The variety of topics ranges from optics and adaptronics and laser and plasma technologies to modern tools in innovation management or new raw materials and their use in technology.

Speaking on the occasion of the twenty-fifth event, Ralf Niggemann, one of the initiators of the Industry Discussions for Central Hessen, drew an accordingly positive interim conclusion: “We started three years ago with the aim of promoting an expert exchange on current technical topics and of establishing the Industry Discussions for Central Hessen as a networking platform connecting industry and academia. The constantly growing interest shown by the region’s universities and businesses shows us how important this forum is.”

It sometimes really was a tight squeeze in Auditorium III of the Physics Institute at the Justus Liebig University when experts from science and industry lectured on current key topics and issues. And the organizers of the events have all agreed to continue with the Industry Discussions. They certainly won’t run out of topics. And there are many signs that the interest in the Industry Discussions for Central Hessen will not wane either.
