Celebrating Metrology

On September 27th and 28th, Hexagon Metrology in Wetzlar marked the opening of its new production hall with a celebration for interested metrology professionals, customers and staff.

Hexagon Metrology’s new production hall at the company’s Wetzlar facility has impressive ultra-modern building services. Highlights include air-conditioning technology capable of guaranteeing a constant temperature of 20 º ± 0.1 º Celsius over a production area of 1,500 square meters. The temperature must have been a lot higher than that when the hall was opened on September 27th and 28th in view of the 350 guests from Germany and other countries.

Investition in and for Wetzlar

Holger Fritze, Managing Director of Hexagon Metrology, welcomed the representatives of politics, academia and industry as well as the company’s employees to a “housewarming party”. “The fact that the new hall will give us another 1,500 square meters of production space, i.e. double what we had before, is more than just a vote of confidence. It demonstrates the trust and the great esteem the global Hexagon corporation has in the Wetzlar management and staff and also in the great potential of the product lines we make here.”

Leading the way in ultra-precise measurement technology

Per Holmberg, President of Hexagon Metrology Europe, Middle East & Africa, gave a speech elucidating the complexity of the demands that are made of metrology today – reflected in the metrological solutions that Hexagon Metrology offers its customers: “The first substantial investments in this site were made in 2005 and 2006 and the second investment has now been completed with the construction of the new production hall. All these investments secure our leadership in ultra-precise measurement technology – a unique competence which is the hallmark of Hexagon Metrology in Wetzlar,” said Holmberg.

First Metrology Forum Wetzlar

Chris Charnley, Quality Manager at Red Bull Technology, told an interested audience about the role played by the measurement technology of Hexagon Metrology in the top-class performance of its partner Red Bull in Formula 1 racing. This was followed by factory tours and demonstrations of the measurement machinery to give the visitors an idea of the fine art of metrology. The fact that Hexagon Metrology also did an excellent job hosting the First Metrology Forum Wetzlar on both days had a positive and extremely productive knock-on effect. The lectures on current developments and future challenges of metrology were accordingly well attended.

Employees and their families join in the celebrations

Apart from the special topics, there was also plenty to eat and drink, of course. An evening firework display lit up the new hall, while the afternoon of the second day was completely devoted to the employees and their families.
